Services for Young People youth work projects for young people in the Stevenage district

The Services for Young People Stevenage Team runs a wide range of groupwork projects for young people at our young people’s centres as well as street-based projects across the district.

Young people can also get information, advice and support at the Stevenage Young People's Centre. Contact the Stevenage Team to make an appointment before visiting or drop in during the opening hours. Phone or video-call appointments are also available.

If you have any questions about our support for young people in the Stevenage district or would like to join a project, please:

Parents/carers and professionals who work with young people can refer a young person to a youth work project.

Identity LGBT+ Project

The Identity LGBT+ Project is a supportive and inclusive environment where young LGBT+ people aged 11 to 17 can get accurate, impartial information and guidance on a range of issues including sexual orientation, gender identity, and related topics.

The project prioritises safety and confidentiality, ensuring young people have a space to express themselves without fear of discrimination.

Typically, the project will include strategies around face-to-face and online bullying, emotional and mental health support to develop skills in self-advocacy, assertiveness, coping mechanisms and self-care.

The project runs every week during term time. Please phone 01438 843340 or email sfyp.stevenage@hertfordshire.gov.uk for details of the venue and times.

Duke of Edinburgh's Award Project

Services for Young People Duke of Edinburgh's Award (DofE) projects are delivered by qualified Youth Workers and are specifically for young people who need additional support or would be less likely to access the DofE through traditional routes:

  • Those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) aged 14-24
  • Young people missing from education aged 14-17
  • Home educated young people aged 14-17
  • Young people being supported by a social worker aged 14-17

Our Youth Workers create an inclusive and supportive environment to ensure all participants can benefit from the DofE experience, regardless of their background or abilities. By participating in a Services for Young People DofE project, young people will not only experience personal growth and develop new skills, but also make a meaningful impact in their local area.
