Services for Young People youth work projects for young people in the Broxbourne district

The Services for Young People Broxbourne Team runs a wide range of groupwork projects for young people at our young people’s centres as well as street-based projects across the district.

Young people can also get information, advice and support at the 11-5 Hub at the Cheshunt Young People's Centre. Contact the Broxbourne Team to make an appointment before visiting or drop in during the opening hours. Phone or video-call appointments are also available.

Broxbourne Be Yourself Be Proud LGBT+ Project

The Broxbourne Be Yourself Be Proud LGBT+ Project is a for LGBT+ people aged 11-17 who need additional support. It is a supportive and inclusive environment where the young people can get accurate, impartial information and guidance on a range of issues including sexual orientation and gender identity. The project prioritises safety and confidentiality, ensuring young people have a space to express themselves without fear of discrimination. Typically, the project will include strategies around face-to-face and online bullying, emotional and mental health support to develop skills in self-advocacy, assertiveness, coping mechanisms and self-care.

Duke of Edinburgh's Award Project

Services for Young People Duke of Edinburgh's Award (DofE) projects are delivered by qualified Youth Workers and are specifically for young people who need additional support or would be less likely to access the DofE through traditional routes:

  • Those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) aged 14-24
  • Young people missing from education aged 14-17
  • Home educated young people aged 14-17
  • Young people being supported by a social worker aged 14-17

Our Youth Workers create an inclusive and supportive environment to ensure all participants can benefit from the DofE experience, regardless of their background or abilities. By participating in a Services for Young People DofE project, young people will not only experience personal growth and develop new skills, but also make a meaningful impact in their local area.

Raising Aspirations Project for home educated young people

The Broxbourne and East Herts Raising Aspirations Project is for young people aged 11 to 17 who are home-schooled (elective home education) or not in formal education. It focuses on building interpersonal and teamwork skills, confidence and resilience. Through interactive workshops and activities, young people can explore topics such as managing their mental and physical wellbeing and setting goals for the future.

Broxbourne street-based youth work project

Services for Young People's street-based youth work projects focus on helping young people stay safe from exploitation and crime. Young people get support from our qualified Youth Workers and find out about services and opportunities available in their area.

Every Tuesday during term time, 6-8pm, in the Waltham Cross area

Services for Young People Youth Workers can be identified by their uniform and ID badge.

Focus Project for young people with SEND aged 11 to 17

The Focus Project is designed for young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) aged 11 to 17, including those with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. The focus is on developing communication and interpersonal skills, confidence and self-esteem in a safe and supportive environment.

The young people will get support from qualified Services for Young People Youth Workers, meet other young people with SEND in their area and learn skills to help them live more independently. Our Youth Workers also offer individualised support with emotional wellbeing, healthy relationships, staying safe, nutrition and cooking, managing money and more.

Broxbourne Youth Council

Broxbourne Youth Council provides young people aged 11 to 17 with opportunities to have their voices heard. Youth council members design and develop social action projects in their local communities, determining priorities, developing action plans and writing funding bids, and are involved in local decision making. 

Members of the youth council work closely with the Youth Strategy Partnership Group (YSPG) which is a forum for local service providers, the voluntary and charity sector, and other key stakeholders to collaborate strategically and operationally. The group works with young people in their area to identify their needs and promote, deliver, and evaluate services for young people in the district, collaborating closely with local youth councils and forums.

Broxbourne Youth Council for young people with SEND

Services for Young People youth councils for young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) aged 11 to 25 give young people opportunities to express their views on issues that are important to them. They also contribute to the improvement of services and opportunities for young people in their local communities and Hertfordshire.

Focus Project for young adults with SEND aged 18 to 25

The Focus Project is for young adults with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) aged 18 to 25, including those with social and emotional mental health (SEMH) needs. The focus is on developing independent living/life skills.

The Waltham Cross Thursday Night Project is a Positive Pathways project which helps young people aged 11-14 stay safe, learn new skills and make informed choices.

Qualified Services for Young People Youth Workers support young people who may be at risk of exploitation, crime, antisocial behaviour or exclusion from their community. The project provides a safe and supportive environment in which young people can get help with navigating challenges and building positive futures.

Waltham Cross girls' and young women's project

The Waltham Cross Girls' and Young Women's Project provides a safe space for young women aged 11 to 17 to grow confidence and resilience by developing life skills and discussing topics relevant to their lives. We address issues including body image, healthy relationships, stereotypes, and positive role models and offer sexual health advice.

Waltham Cross Friday Night Project

Waltham Cross YouthZone Saturday Project

The Waltham Cross YouthZone Saturday Project is an exciting new project for all young people in the local area aged 11-17, up to 25 for care leavers and those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). All young people in these age ranges are welcome to attend - no booking or referral is needed.

Through interactive workshops and fun activities, including music, dance, sports and creative arts, our qualified Youth Workers help young people to:

  • Develop essential life skills including decision-making, communication, and conflict resolution
  • Learn skills to improve their emotional wellbeing and build resilience
  • Make informed choices and build healthy relationships
  • Keep themselves safe from exploitation
  • Increase their awareness of the consequences of substance misuse and anti-social behaviour
  • Identify and achieve their aspirations
  • Find out about opportunities in their local area, including other Services for Young People youth work projects such as youth councils, through which they can become active citizens and changemakers in their communities.

The young people attending are enabled to shape the content, delivery and development of the project at every stage.
