Useful tips for finding part time work
- Create a CV (ensure this is tailored to the job you are applying for and state that you are looking for part time work)
- Take your CV and hand it out around your local town
- Don’t just take it to shops that are advertising vacancies
- Dress smartly and if possible give your CV to the manager, if they are not available asked for it to be passed on
- Be friendly and talkative to create a good impression
- Ask friends and family if they know anyone who has any jobs, one of the best ways of securing employment is through networking so use your network that is available to you
- Make use of social media why not post a status “Anyone know of any part time jobs locally”
- Company and shopping centre websites are updated all the time so make sure you check them regularly for new vacancies
- Lots of companies take on extra staff at Christmas and throughout summer so don’t forget to keep looking. Applications for Christmas staff can open as early as September so make sure you apply early.
- Vacancies may become available during the summer and early autumn when employees leave to start university.
- If money not is not your main objective, you could consider volunteering as a great way of gaining experience of work
