The Services for Young People (SfYP) Young People’s Awards recognise and celebrate the achievements of some of the young people who have been supported by SfYP over the previous academic year.

SfYP works with thousands of young people every year in its young people’s centres, local neighbourhood venues, schools and colleges, and in Hertfordshire’s parks and streets. The awards events highlight the positive impact that SfYP Youth Workers and Personal Advisers have had in enabling young people to overcome barriers and fulfil their potential.

The awards are allocated in seven categories, which echo the vision and objectives we hold for young people in Hertfordshire.

Be healthy: awarded to young people who have shown significant development in understanding risk and making good choices through their engagement with SfYP.

Be safe: awarded to young people who have made a significant contribution to the safety of their peers or themselves, for example, acting against bullying, discrimination, child sexual exploitation (CSE) or drug/alcohol misuse.

Be ambitious: awarded to young people who have made significant developments in learning new skills, trying new things and improving their employability skills.

Be resilient: awarded to young people who have overcome significant challenges with the support of SfYP practitioners.

Be independent: awarded to young people who have made significant developments in being self-sufficient, being aware of their responsibilities, and ensuring other people’s thoughts and opinions are heard.

Be happy: awarded to young people who have made significant improvements in their personal and social skills over the past 12 months, recognising how this has had a positive impact on their resilience, emotional well-being and their long-term prospects.

Be included: awarded to young people who have overcome challenges regarding sexuality, disability, race, ethnicity, gender, religion or belief, and who are now able to voice their opinions and foster a welcoming and inclusive community for their peers.

Four Young People’s Awards events are being held during National Youth Work Week, which runs from Monday 6th to Sunday 12th November 2023, in Stevenage, Hemel Hempstead, Hertford and Watford.
