National Youth Work Week is an annual celebration of youth work across the UK and celebrates the positive impact youth work has on young people. Services for Young People (SfYP) will be celebrating the achievements of young people resulting from their engagement with our services and raising awareness of the support we offer.
To celebrate the National Youth Work Week 2022 theme ‘A Festival of Youth Work’, young people attending SfYP projects will be completing themed activities, alongside the programmed project content. Winners of the National Youth Work Week poster competition will see their posters expressing ‘what youth work and youth workers mean to me’ displayed at the young people’s centres in their local area, as well as exhibited at their area’s Young People’s Awards event.
Four Young People’s Awards events are taking place during the week to recognise the achievements that young people have made as a result of the support they have received from SfYP over the previous academic year. These awards highlight the positive impact that SfYP youth workers and advisers have had in enabling young people to overcome barriers and fulfil their potential.
The SfYP Hospital Youth Work Team, who support young people in hospitals and other healthcare settings with issues that may be affecting their physical or mental health, will be visiting Watford, Hemel Hempstead, Hertford County, QEII and Lister hospitals, as well as the Children Crisis Assessment and Treatment Team in Radlett. The hospital youth workers will be taking part in ward walk-arounds and co-hosting stalls with SfYP district team youth workers to raise awareness of the breadth of work we deliver in all settings and how to refer a young person to SfYP.
Our youth workers will also have a presence in schools across all districts of Hertfordshire during the week, delivering assemblies and lunchtime information sessions in most secondary schools to promote the service.
A further celebratory event is planned by the SfYP Dacorum Team, who are showcasing the youth work and facilities at Hemel Hempstead Young People’s Centre by hosting an open morning for professionals on 10th November.
