Services for Young People led on establishing the Young Futures Dacorum (YFD) panel in partnership with the Hertfordshire Police and Crime Commissioner, bringing together a multi-agency group chaired by a local head teacher. The criteria for young people to be referred onto the project was for them to be known to local police, but with no further action to be taken.
From November 2025 to March 2026 the panel identified and allocated support to 17 young people aged 10-16. Professionally trained SfYP Youth Workers and Advisers provided intensive support to each young person, ensuring they had appropriate diversionary activities and helping them understand the consequences of their actions or risky behaviour. They were also given one-to-one support with any challenges they may have been facing, such as returning to school after missing education.
Representatives from the Home Office visited the panel and agreed it was an example of good practice.
To date, 15 of the 17 young people have had no further dealings with the police.
Young people can join an SfYP youth work project and get one-to-one information, advice and support from SfYP Advisers.
