Widening access to work experience opportunities and mentoring for young people in Hertfordshire

23 June 2022

HOP Into Your Future is an exciting new programme for young people aged 16-24 in Hertfordshire who are not in education, employment or training.

Funded by the Community Renewal Fund and led by Hertfordshire County Council Services for Young People, HOP Into Your Future is creating work experience opportunities for young people with local Hertfordshire employers to help them progress into employment.

The programme offers workplace experiences that are individually tailored to each young person, enabling them to explore career pathway choices and understand the steps needed to achieve their goals. It enables them to develop knowledge, skills and valuable employability characteristics in a real work environment and develop links with employers. They do 12-hour work tasters which can lead to 70-hour work experience placements in organisations they have been able to select following a careers guidance session with our Personal Advisors. The young people have an allocated employer mentor to support them to be successful in their placement.

We currently have over 30 motivated employers who have trained a volunteer employer mentor in their organisation to support the young people on their placements. The work experience opportunities are in a wide range of industries, including hospitality and catering, manufacturing, education, digital and creative, accounting and finance, hair and beauty, events management, health and social care, construction, leisure, local authorities, landscaping, property and warehouse work.

Young people who have left school and have no plans for September are encouraged to get in touch to check their eligibility.
