More than 90 young people visited the Services for Young People stand at the annual Herts Pride community event at Cassiobury Park in Watford this August.

Herts Pride is Hertfordshire’s biggest LGBT+ celebration - a safe, inclusive and fun place for people from all backgrounds to come together and make a positive impact in their local area. The event also raises awareness of the issues affecting LGBT+ people and where help and support can be found.

The Services for Young People (SfYP) stand showcased our award-winning work with young LGBT+ people and raised awareness about the support we provide. SfYP Youth Workers spoke to more than 90 young people on the day, some who currently attend SfYP LGBT+ projects, as well as many new faces and their families.

One SfYP Youth Worker described it as a "friendly and relaxed environment" that allowed them to meet lots of young people and share information about the many ways young people can engage with SfYP. It was also a chance to network with other organisations and make new connections for potential partnership working.

A young person who attended the event talked about how easy it was to access information and advice, saying "To have so many services in one marquee was like having face-to-face time with Google!"

SfYP supports young LGBT+ people through LGBT+ projects across the county and through the 'Who not What' group, which represents the voice of the young LGBT+ community of Hertfordshire at a countywide level. Young LGBT+ people can also get information, advice and support at SfYP young people’s centres.

Professionals who work with young people and parents/carers can refer a young person to SfYP here: Make a referral.
