Go Wild at Hudnall family event creates lasting memories and friendships

21 June 2023

In partnership with the Hertfordshire County Council Adoption Team, the Services for Young People Go Wild at Hudnall Team organised a day of activities for families who have adopted children in Hertfordshire.

The families came together during the half term holidays to take part in exciting outdoor adventures and nature exploration at Hudnall Park. The event not only created a sense of community among families who face unique challenges, but also ensured that they continue to find support and joy in their adoption journeys.

The day began with a nature walk, guiding the families through the park's grasslands, woodlands and pond area. They had the opportunity to observe fascinating wildlife, including newts, bugs, and even deer. The excitement continued with a thrilling tyre rolling race, sparking friendly competition among the children and adults.

Another highlight was the den building activity, where families worked together as a team, supporting each other to construct unique hideouts. The families then gathered around the campfire, learning the art of fire lighting and enjoying toasted marshmallows.

The activities were designed to nurture the children’s confidence and resilience. By encouraging independent exploration and decision-making, they were empowered to embrace new challenges and develop essential life skills.

In addition to the fun and adventure, the event provided a platform for families to connect and form new friendships. Parents openly shared their experiences as adoptive parents, offering valuable support and advice to one another. They also took the opportunity to exchange contact information for meeting up in the future.

The event was a great success and attendees expressed their appreciation for the inclusive and engaging experience and to the dedicated and knowledgeable staff for organising a truly memorable day.

Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with children expressing their excitement and enjoyment of the event: "I loved it, it was amazing!"

One parent said:
"There was something for everyone. We had a lovely experience in beautiful surroundings. Thanks so much!"

The Adoption Team Leader said:
“We really enjoyed our day with the Go Wild team. It was amazing to see the confidence in the children grow throughout the day… and it was lovely to see everyone getting involved supporting each other and having fun. It was completely accessible to all staff, parents and children and we look forward to coming back soon.”
