Young people say they feel more confident and clearer about their future goals

29 July 2026

Services for Young People’s annual user survey shows the positive impact our services have on young people in Hertfordshire.

Every year we ask young people to complete a survey to tell us what they think about the SfYP services they’ve used, how we have helped them, and what we could do to improve. A record number of 1,288 young people aged 11-25 completed the 2026 survey and gave us their feedback.

Who completed the survey?

The majority (76%) of respondents were aged 13 to 16, and 41% had special educational needs or disabilities (SEND), a larger proportion than in previous years, reflecting the wider range of support we now provide for those with SEND. Most young people who completed the survey had taken part in an SfYP youth work project.

Headline results and feedback

The young people rated our services highly, with over 80% saying the support they received was good, that they always felt listened to and taken seriously, and that they would recommend SfYP to a friend.

The young people reported the strongest outcomes in:

  • Increased confidence – 61%
  • Clearer future goals – 50%
  • Making more positive choices – 45%
  • Improved wellbeing – 43%

Analysis of the free text comments showed a strong level of satisfaction, particularly regarding positive relationships with staff and how useful and enjoyable the support provided was. The young people mentioned staff kindness and approachability, and feeling safe, welcomed and valued. Areas for improvement focussed mainly on providing more opportunities, support and activities, rather than dissatisfaction with the quality of delivery.
